Overview
Crowcon Xgard Bright Fixed Gas Detector | Intelligent Addressable Gas Detector for Flammable, Toxic & Oxygen Monitoring
The Crowcon Xgard Bright Fixed Gas Detector is a next-generation intelligent addressable fixed-point gas detector designed for continuous monitoring of flammable gases, toxic gases, and oxygen (O₂) in hazardous industrial environments. Developed by Crowcon Detection Instruments Ltd., the Xgard Bright combines advanced sensor technologies, simplified installation, intuitive operation, and low maintenance requirements into a single versatile platform. It is engineered to improve workplace safety while reducing installation and lifecycle costs across marine, offshore, oil & gas, petrochemical, hydrogen, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications.
Unlike conventional fixed gas detectors that require multiple wiring configurations and frequent sensor replacement, the Crowcon Xgard Bright utilizes a 4-wire addressable architecture, significantly reducing cabling requirements for multi-point installations. This streamlined design lowers installation costs, simplifies system expansion, and enables efficient communication between detectors and control systems. Combined with plug-in terminal blocks and non-intrusive configuration using a magnetic key, installation and maintenance become faster, safer, and more cost-effective.
The Xgard Bright supports multiple sensor technologies, including MPS™ (Molecular Property Spectrometer), infrared (IR), catalytic bead, electrochemical, and long-life oxygen sensors, allowing users to monitor a wide variety of combustible gases, toxic gases, carbon dioxide (CO₂), and oxygen. This flexibility makes it suitable for applications ranging from hydrocarbon leak detection and toxic gas monitoring to oxygen deficiency protection in hazardous locations.
One of the key innovations of the Xgard Bright is its support for MPS™ technology, which provides TrueLEL™ multi-gas accuracy, immunity to sensor poisoning, and eliminates the need for routine calibration or scheduled maintenance for flammable gas detection. The detector is also hydrogen-ready, making it an excellent choice for hydrogen production, storage, and refuelling infrastructure where traditional catalytic sensors may be less suitable.
A large, bright OLED display allows operators to view gas concentration, detector status, alarms, and maintenance information directly at the detector without opening the enclosure. Combined with non-intrusive calibration, this improves safety by reducing the amount of time technicians spend in hazardous areas. The detector also provides standard 4–20 mA analog output and RS-485 Modbus RTU communication, with optional HART® communication and built-in alarm and fault relays for seamless integration with PLC, DCS, SCADA, Fire & Gas, and Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems.
Built with either high-grade aluminium alloy or 316 stainless steel housing, the Crowcon Xgard Bright offers IP65/IP66 protection, excellent corrosion resistance, and international approvals including ATEX, IECEx, UL, CE, PESO, and other regional certifications. These features make it ideal for harsh environments such as offshore platforms, LNG terminals, oil refineries, chemical plants, marine vessels, power generation facilities, and industrial manufacturing sites.
With intelligent sensor options, reduced installation costs, advanced communication capabilities, and exceptional reliability, the Crowcon Xgard Bright delivers a future-ready gas detection solution for demanding industrial safety applications.
